When supercell storm clouds form over your house
Ever looked out your window and seen a supercell cloud like this one? No? Here in Laramie on the high plains it seems like we have the ultimate view of the infamous big skies of Wyoming… which come with big weather systems as well. When I saw these clouds forming while cooking dinner, I decided to grab my camera bag and head to the edge of town where I could get a better view on the ridge. I photographed the cloud system coming in, and as I stood there behind my tripod I heard my phone alerting me that this storm had already been dropping golf ball sized hail over Cheyenne, the town to the east. I took a few more photographs until I saw lightning, collected my wandering dog, and headed back home to watch the lighting show. There was no rain or hail, but there were wicked winds and a continuous ominous lightning show that lit up the skies for hours until the storm passed through.
Ever wonder how they actually form? Watch the video below to check it out in motion.
