The Art and Music Thing – An Annual Winter Music Festival in Laramie, Wyoming
Over 30 local bands and 30 local artists took over the Laramie Plains Civic Center and Gryphon Theater from noon until midnight for the 5th Annual Art and Music Thing this January. This mid-winter music festival, hosted by Laramie’s local publication News From Nowhere, is a fundraiser for the WhatFest and the Albany County SAFE Project. Check out the photos from this year’s event along with highlights from previous years. Don’t miss this event! I had my own booth set up selling my new mini metals and select prints and had the pleasure of kicking off the music this year with a set of my own music on acoustic guitar as well!
Exhibiting artists included Trompe L’oeil painter Ron Macintosh (pictured above right) as well as Imagine Studios hosting Audrey Corrinne’s beautiful illustrative work (pictured below) along with Robert Kirkwood’s digital art and visual storyteller Tara Pappa’s mixed media artwork.
Spoken word, improv games, and acting exercises were also part of the days events.
Two dueling pianos were brought in and a few local musicians banged on these out of tune and less than perfect pianos for a truly unique, fun, and friendly competitive experience in the lobby as seen below.
The gym featured acoustic artists including Timothy John on guitar and piano (pictured below) as well as original songs from Spencer Pelton.
The event featured a community painting as well as dance music and an awesome light show by The Ninjahs.
Belly dancers also serenaded us with some beautiful moves in-between sets.
The Gryphon Theater rocked the house late into the night with performances from J Shogren (below top right) and acoustic duo Dauphin.
Limited fine art prints from the photographs from the event are available for purcahse here. Thanks to the town of Buford for providing security. Other exhibiting artists included hand blown glass from Sage Glass Creations, an instant photo booth from Jamy, prints from Millie Vercauteren, and spray paint art from Taylor Doherty, to name a few. Be sure to check out this event next year and see what the vibrant creative community of Laramie has to offer!
