Self portrait by my favorite frozen lake

My Own Shadow on North Crow Reservoir, Wyoming

I decided I needed a break from writing and took off on what I thought was going to be a nice snow shoe with my dog. I haven’t been up to the Laramie Mountains in a few weeks, and when I got there I realized that the warm weather we’ve been having (warm is 30’s F by Wyoming standards) had really taken its toll on the snow pack. I decided to drive further in to one of my favorite fishing spots that I usually can’t get to in the winter. Miraculously, the snow had actually melted off most of the dirt roads which were clear of snow sans the occasion patch. I drove the 6 miles or so in on the dirt road and made it to the isolated lake that I’ve had so many good times at. I took a deep breath and felt like I was finally returning to a part of my home. Total complete silence except for the noisy crunch of my own shoes. Although there would be no fishing since most of the lake was frozen with ski tracks across it, I still enjoyed the fact that warm weather allowed my station wagon to be able to see this spot in the winter!
